Varietal: Tempranillo 100%
Producer: Pietro Beconcini
On the nose, floral and fruit fragrances take turns at first, behind that there is a development of intense minerality and savoury attributes. The palate is smooth like good Tempranillo, but arising from the soils of Tuscany it becomes more complex with higher acidity, making this wine very fluid and drinkable as it cleanses the palate.
From the newer (10-20yr old) fields of Tempranillo the winemaking process is designed to bring out the natural characteristics of the grape, 14 months in french oak.
For many years, the unsuspected presence of the Tempranillo grape in San Miniato was signalled only by the letter X, eloquent testimony to the then-unknown history of the grape.
The name of the wine derives from the Tuscan pronunciation of the letter X, “IXE”.
